April Showers bring May flowers. Happy May! It’s my birth month so I could not be more excited for the month ahead, but before I do that I want to take time for a good reflection on my memories from April. It was Earth Month and finally a massive turn around on having nice consistent weather!
Flower Happy Hour
So we actually did this before the Eagle’s Draft Party and it was such a blast! I wish I had spent a little more time here but it was nice to get to experience the little bits and pieces anyways. The Happy hour lasted all week at The Wayward but they had a small celebration with the Philly community on April 27th in Jefferson Square where they had live performers, pop up shops varying from locally crafted jewelry and of course local plant sellers. At the drink stall they had a strawberry infused lemonade that was extremely refreshing and not too sweet. But at The Wayward they were running their cocktail special in honor of Earth day, a basil gimlet that my friends seemed to be big fans of.
Eagle’s Draft Party
I was also able to attend the Eagle’s Draft Party! I have been in the past but it’s been a couple years since then, this event is ticketed with exclusive advance tickets for season members as well as tickets starting at $18 for general audiences. The event’s main activity is a watch party out in the stadium on the jumbotrons.
Activities available are actually quite endless. Although I will have to note I was quite disappointed that we were not able to go out onto the field due to some stupid monster truck thing which was quite an ugly sight to look at. But when I had attended a few yers ago it was such a gorgeous night and once in a lifetime experience to be out on the Eagles field like that. They also had activities both inside and outside which is really engaging.
Some of the things we did was get plenty of pictures at the different photo-ops such as: The Super Bowl Parade bus, the Super Bowl statuettes they had, and the Eagles helmet go-cart. One of my personal favorites in being able to go into the Eagles locker room and see how they come out to the stadium! But what would probably get most visitors excited is the massive discount at The Eagles pro shop and yes that includes Super Bowl merch. This included Jerseys, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, shot glasses, and pint glasses.
Some other activities also included: more cute photo-ops around the area, autographs from the cheerleaders, touching the Lombardi trophy (I’m a baseball girly so the long line was just not for me), hanging out with Swoop, face painting, and raffles.
After all the activity, we decided to grab some food and drink, which is your typical stadium food. We then snagged some seats, which are unreserved and allowed to sit anywhere in the designated areas.
Pop up gardens
It’s that time of year again! Pop up Garden season!! Honestly the best way to get people outside and socialize and just be with nature again. I don’t drink anymore but it was still so beautiful to be out in the sun with the Philly community again after such a hard winter. For this event I took one of the dogs from our shelter over to the pop up garden just for a change in enrichment activities and of course to get lots of free scratches. But it was also to help promote adoption through our shelter! I had taken Kurama who was an energetic, friendly, ball of love who wanted plenty of hugs and scratches. He had gotten along so well with the crowd the garden had brought in and was able to attract plenty of new friends with his beautiful greetings. Philly has a ton of these around the city, but I honestly think this pop up garden is the prettiest with the different flowers, the different seated areas, and wide food variety.
Movies I’ve watched
A movie I saw this month in theaters was Sinners. We really need to bring theater culture back because it’s movies like this that deserved to be seen in theaters with surround sound and a big clear screen. I mean the movie was just so beautifully produced form scenery, story telling, and the best part, the soundtrack. I don’t want to go too much into but if you are someone who is into mobs and southern style give this movie a shot. The action in it was really well choreographed and transition between scenes and other creative designs was incredibly smooth and help promote the flow of the story. It was a movie that had horror/ vampire elements, but deep down the story really drove home the idea of how close we are to our ancestry. The movie does that through the use of the blues with our main character Sam aka Preachers boy, who’s beautiful does more than tell a story.
Shows I’ve watched
So if this is your first blog post of mine, I love reality show trash. For this month, I decided to revisit the founding fathers and mothers of reality, Jersey Shore. I do an annually Jersey Shore rewatch of the original 6 season, but I recently got access to the recent Jersey Shore: Family Vacation (which is starting their new season on May 8th) and all I have to say. Sammi is back. And Angelina is still the most annoying and childish cast member which is wild considering who else is in the cast. They still do their classic club thing, they go out, drink, and dance. But they also include a lot more of the family aspect considering now most of the cast has multiple children. So if you wanted to watch to get see that classic Jersey Shore we grew up with, don’t bother. However, if you’re looking to just watch how much they’ve grown (and how much they haven’t grown), watch it. There is still plenty of drama, albeit all at Angelinas doing cause she can never move past anything and has to drag out every piece of drama to claim relevancy. I honestly like the family aspect of it the clubbing and drinking is boring these days so it’s super cool to see them go to different states and try new activities. It almost helps with building an itinerary for these vacation spots.
Books I’ve read
So I’ve started two books that aren’t too long, In Focus Astrology and In Focus Meditation. I’ve decided to pick these up because I’ve gotten a burst of my spirituality coming back and I alway find it important to educate myself on these things. Especially meditation since I want to get better with being mindful and just my overall mental health (especially with such a rough winter). In my Astrology book I’m currently reading up on the basics of different houses, elements, and important aspects of each zodiac. Going through it I’ve actually highlighted some things from each zodiac because I see it in my friends or family which was really interesting.
Per my Meditation book, again the basics, how meditation is viewed or practiced in different religions, equipment that can be helpful with meditation, and different ways to ease the senses (specifically smell). The books also comes with laminated meditation cards to provide the reader with different options based on their mood or energy.
If you’re looking for something that is just a quick read or want a simplified understanding I recommend these books! The books also allow room for your interpretation which happens with these types of topics, it’s about what speaks and makes sense to you. It’s always best to do further research but if you’re looking for something with an easy start, I recommend these!
Thank you so much reading! Have a wonderful day!
