Couchella

I was able to attend Coachella from my couch! Okay well, it was actually my sister’s couch but nonetheless I went to Coachella for free! I wanted a party night but didn’t want to be too spendy on a tight budget and I wanted an activity to do but it was so rainy and cold out. And during the lockdown, there was only one club I could go to that always had free alcohol and was always stocked with ingredients for mac n’ cheese, my sister’s apartment! So why not take a trip down a bit of memory lane and have one last hurrah at her place.

With that being said, my sister and I always celebrate with a good theme and of course this theme for our Saturday night was Coachella! My sister and I went for a bohemian style, I had my gold chain belt, navy blue dress with bell sleeves, my tall boots, and my little cowboy hat. We also had a great set up for the night, the bands we wanted to see were Jimmy Eat World, Yo Gabba Gabba, T-Pain, Charli XCX, and Green Day. I know really a mixed bag. I’ll be attaching links to some of their performances, some are from the Coachella youtube page and some are ones from the crowds perspective!

From Coachella’s Social Media

For sustenance we had a homemade charcuterie board, which is my specialty and go to for any party. In all honesty, I just really want an excuse to eat a lot of cheese and pepperoni. I always try to balance out my boards, so if I have one meat options, I’ll have one option of everything else cheeses, fruits, veggies, crackers, and some sort of savory thing like cashews. And when it’s 2-3 people this is usually my go to layout since I include a lot of different types of food on the board.

Jimmy Eat World

So I had caught that last 15-20 minutes of this performance on the Coachella Main Stage but I want to start by saying wowie the lead singer is a total babe! He is like 50 something but he looks 30 something he just looks fantastic for his age. But of course most importantly they did an absolutely incredible job, they planned their most iconic song, The Middle, which trust me you know exactly what song that is everyone does. And for their little stage set up it was nothing jaw dropping as some of the other performances but what can you expect from a rock band that has been around since the 90’s. Either way, they didn’t need it with how great their stage presence was.

Yo Gabba Gabba!

This is what I was most stoked for, I didn’t grow up watching too much Yo Gabba Gabba but just enough that the reason I party the way I do is because they taught me how to party. They were on the Mojave Stage where they had some shade covering the stage and crowd. With the crowd in mind, compared to all the other crowds in other concerts, this one had to be the most involved and most fun. Like this is one of the only performance that made me experience FOMO. I can just imagine how fun it was after walking around on such a hot day to go get stimulated but fun colors and sounds with goofy characters jumping around in a shaded area. But what’s even crazier is that they brought their friends Flavor Flav, ThunderCat, Portugal. The Man., and Weird Al on stage. Because actually what the hell? All in all, whether you actually go or watch it from home next year and we are blessed with another Yo Gabba Gabba performance, tune in! I had such a blast and it was just a nice break from all the hubbub for a bit of nostalgia.

T-Pain

Okay so I want to ask Coachella why exactly it took them 20 years to get a legend on to their stage? T-Pain could be found on Coachella’s Main Stage. He not only included a lot of his most popular songs like Kiss Kiss and Buy U A Drank but he included some absolute banger remixes that included songs from Pitbull, Lil’ Wayne, and Queen. His stage setup was probably the most creative out of all the performances I saw. He had a very steampunk desert look to it with a steampunk fit to match, kind of like a Madmax aesthetic. Lastly, his stage presences was absolutely phenomenal! I’m never one to judge performers on whether or not they can sing and dance at the same time cause that takes a lot of talent, but when they can do it I’m always left super impressed. So to wrap it up, T-Pain did both, and absolutely killed it!

Charli XCX

We loved Brat summer and can’t wait for the next one! Charli XCX’s performance took place on the Coachella Main Stage singing songs like Apple, 365, and of course Guess. During Chali’s performance the icons Troye Sivan, Billie Eilish, and Lorde were brought out on to the stage for their respected songs with her. Charli’s performance was a lot like her regular tour performances, lots of flashing lights and close ups but it was an incredible performance nonetheless. I was most excited about her singing I Love it which is one of the first songs that introduced me to her and I’m very happy to see her put respect on the song till this day. At the end of the performance, it felt like she was announcing another album for the summer but it might have just been a cute call back to the idea of “Brat Summer” and how it technically never ends.

Green Day

I mean, who is shocked that this was one of the best performances that probably occurred this weekend also on the Coachella Main Stage. The whole band looks fantastic, I swear they haven’t aged a day since I first started listening to them! Their stage presence is exactly what you would expect from Green Day, engaged, lots of movement, and the best instrument shredding a band could do. They also had their iconic fist holding a heart grenade on stage which was such a nostalgic touch. My favorite thing about Green Day as of recent is they seem to have people confused. With the right wing using their music to seem hip and cool as if Green Day wasn’t singing “I’m not part of a redneck agenda” in reference to Bush. Then you’ve got them saying “ugh when did Green Day get so political!” Babe since the 80’s?? Like when they first started?? That’s what being punk is about! From that it’s been made clear that you just had Green Day on in the background, but me?? I LISTENED to those bangers. With that said, Green Day did not change a lick and still keeping the same energy after all these years.

Thank you so much for reading! Have a wonderful day!
