Monthly Moments: February

February is one of my top three favorite months, mostly because of Valentine’s day but also because it’s not January! This month entailed a lot of lessons learned and first times for real world things, but a lot of good things happened this month and I’m going to take the time to talk about it in this post! That even with your bad days, there can always be those shiny beautiful ones.

Fabric Museum- 12th & Arch

One of my favorite things to do is take myself out on dates! Because I know I can count on me and rely on me to be on time. But do you know whats even better than dates? Free dates! So I was shocked that after having done some research to find a free activity (which of course, most are closed for renovation during the time of year people want to be inside a building), that the Fabric Museum (FM) fell onto this list! And it was open! I had passed this building so many times to go grocery shopping and never really considered it since it’s not something massive like the Franklin Institute. But when I had visited FM I was there for a solid hour and a half to two hours, theres was so much to learn about and the creativity in there was out of this world! If you’re looking to do something for free and be fascinated at the same time, go to the Fabric Museum! Below are some pictures that I had taken of some of my favorite pieces. During my time there on February 8th 2025, the exhibit was Soft/Cover.

Valentine’s Day Brunch

I had previously written about my annual Valentine’s day brunch party in my very first post here. But I never talked about how it actually went! Which was great! And we got to see some snow flurries appear, which just added to the beauty of everything. And shockingly enough, all love to my friends, everybody made it on a reasonable time! Which is something I always super appreciate, I think it is such a simple way to show respect between host and guest.

I always include a game of bingo in my events because I think it’s just such a fun thing that a lot of people enjoy, I also include prizes in my games (it’s my love language to gift give). This year I did the same 1st place prize of a free commissioned painting from me, 2nd place was an all paid for date night, and last place is always an extra goodie bag. My 1st and 3rd place prizes always stay the same since a lot of my friends really love to get those, as for second place I either do a gift card or something in theme with the party.

Below I’m attaching some pictures of the food spreads and drink section! These are always my favorite part of the parties I host because it’s where most of my love goes.

Volunteering

While I don’t have a full time steady job yet, I like to take up some of my free time by volunteering! What better way to spend an afternoon than curled up with puppies and kittens. I think everyone should volunteer at their local animal shelter since it helps the animals remain enriched, it helps with the shelters funding, and being around animals could help with your mental health! The shelter I volunteer at has some of the most fun events to attend and it’s so sweet to engage with other people on the common ground that we all find puppies and kittens cute as can be.

Movies I’ve watched

So this isn’t necessarily referring to new movies that have come out this past month, but just what I’ve watched! I’m a massive movie goer and love to watch movies anywhere from anytime. Now, before I go into the first movie, I need everyone to know I was seven years old when this movie came out so I clearly didn’t have an interest in movies of these genres at the time. After having kept you on the edge of your seat long enough, the movie was Mama Mia. Can I just say this has to be top three most historic and cinematic masterpieces I’ve ever seen? The script, the acting, the music, the locations?? I cried, I sang along, I quoted some parts of the movie I had no idea were even from this movie. It was such a feel good movie and one that I’ll always want to come back too!

A new movie I did watch was One of Them Days featuring Keke Palmer and SZA, which was absolutely incredible and also had me crying at the end. I always adore a movie with woman main characters just cause we truly are all around funnier and better to look at! But, there’s always moments in movies with an FMC that are just so relatable and it feels good to have that type of connection with those characters. Anyways, if you’re looking for a movie that’s hilarious, has a great story, and beautiful life lessons, this one is it. I also really enjoyed the plot point of the girls living in their close residence complex where it shows how tight knit the community is and how protective they get (rightfully so). I applaud a director or writer when they are able to show the pros and cons of a close community without having to out right say “we’re a community! We share everything with each other.” You’re just able to see and feel it.

Shows I’ve watched

Okay, so while I am a huge movie person and can sit through 3 or 4 at a time, I’m awful when it comes to watching or keeping up with shows. I don’t know what it is, I think it might just be how accessible episodes are or that if I want to know how something ends I’d rather do it in one sitting than over a period of time. But there are some that catch my eye and keep me seated! I will say I’ve watched the occasional action packed or fiery fantasy, Archer, Game of Thrones, so on. What always keeps me seated? Reality television. And I don’t want to hear “oh it’s boring”, “it’s scripted,” “it’s bad for you,” well so is watching the Targaryen family have relations with their own relatives but whatever. But! I think there is something so fascinating about watching humans interact in certain situations, examples are Bad Girls Club, Love Island, or my personal favorites Real estate shows. It’s almost like reading a psychology study. (P.s. shows like Cops and Live PD count as reality too.)

A couple of the real estate/reality shows I’ve watched was Selling The Hamptons, which only has two season right now (hoping to see the drama continue amongst a bunch of rich people) and the Trixie Motel series with her spin off Drag Me Home. There’s not much to talk about Selling the Hamptons other than general tv drama, but my favorite part is seeing these massive homes in the Hamptons as well as the prices they go for. It really made me want to experience these types of homes, but I could never imagine living in a house that size while it also feels super empty. As for the Trixie Motel shows, if you want to see some incredible stylistic choices other than the overdone farm home, check this show out! I’ve never wanted to fully renovate a whole place so badly, it’s the perfect example of using free will to decorate a home or motel. Both of these shows are located on Max currently!

Another genre of shows I enjoy are animated and usually fall in the DC Comics category cause I personally think that’s where they thrive. The two I’ve been obsessing with is Creature Commandos (Watch on Max, 1 season and 7 episodes) and My Adventures with Superman (Watch on Max, 2 seasons and 20 total episodes). These two shows, content wise, are total opposite sides of the DC animated spectrum. Creature Commandos has more of an Archer animation style, pretty brutal, and with a mouth your mother would hate. What really made the show stand out though was the absolutely heart wrenching stories you get for each of these characters on the team. I wasn’t a big James Gunn fan, but I’m so excited to see him take a completely different direction than Marvel did as well as shine light on the more eclectic characters in the DC Comics.

Per My Adventures with Superman, this is your fun little adventure but edge of your seat type of show! I also say that it’s a very feel good show and I love this type of style for Superman. I think we’ve strayed a bit too far from his happy go-lucky vibe with the dark take from Henry Cavill. Which no hate! The man did a great job and everyone each to their own. But I love when Superman is just so bubbly and confident in himself, I think he’s just a great example of a hero who can still be those things even while living two completely different lives. We also get to see Lois and his best friend, Jimmy Olsen! So, if you miss that side of Superman, I would recommend this show.

Books I finished this month

Now, I’m not the quickest reader (my poor mother has to beg me to finally read books for us to kiki about), however, I’ve been really into tiny quick books. Like ones you can fit in your bag or are an easy read. So the book that I had this month was Pocket Therapy for Anxiety by Edmund Bourne PhD. One of my biggest problems with anxiety, that I didn’t realize until these past few months, is the feeling that I’m the first person to ever feel anxiety and that I’m alone. Which is weird, because I know I’m not, but my body isn’t aware? I don’t know I just have a BA in English, but reading books about anxiety while also picking up tips for coping skills feels really good! Whether you have anxiety or not, I recommend this book since it is a quick read but can also teach you some pretty important skills other than “just breathe.”

Thank you so much for reading! Check out some more articles by me below.
